Can I Have a Minute of Your Time (x12)? Reely.

One minute of your attention. That’s all I ask. 60 seconds or less, to keep your interest. Each week for 12 weeks, I try to tell you a story. It’s a challenge I give to myself. The Mikes over at Forgotten Cinema are gracious enough to humor me. So, for those of you who missed it the first time around, here you go…

I’m no actor. But if I was, I’d be furthest from the Method type. I will, however, try my best at looking the part. Since I couldn’t find a sailor suit on such short notice, I fashioned myself after Nicholson’s character in The Last Detail.

I mustache you a question…should I keep it?

I was psyched for this one. Years ago, when Brightburn was coming out, I entered a contest to win a prize pack…and actually won! It came with a shirt, hat, and sunglasses. So, I was prepared. I’d like to note, this video was my back-up idea! Once I saw The Mikes went with Chronicle, I had to go this route. Not bad, if I do say so, myself.

Look, up at this video! It’s bird! It’s a plane! No, it’s an adult playing pretend.

The Mikes had contacted me to ask if I’d like to fill in for their curated Reel. It was an honor and I put a lot of thought into it. Now, I’d be working on themes on BOTH ends. I didn’t want to screw it up. Here’s a little BTS for this video. I had gone to the local school after hours to film in their empty field. To my surprise, there was a growing crowd. Adults unfolding lawn chairs, kids playing, and they seemed to be placed in view of MY filming. Yet, I persisted. Even after one of the parents said to their kid, “Don’t bother him. Let the man work on his swing.” I never see anyone filming content in the real world. I imagine this would be a common occurrence. In spite of the audience, I accomplished what I set out to do.

The Legend of Bagger Vance —> Tin Cup

Solving the Reely was the easy part. I deserved a cold one after that.

This was another one I had to rethink. My intention was to be abducted by aliens. I even asked The Mrs. and our daughter to give me a hand. Their assistance fell through (it had been a “nighttime” shoot) and it wasn’t easy for me to do it myself. So, I skipped the initial abduction and went right to the table. Not to worry, I got to use the original idea later on.

Sometimes the simplest ideas…

As I said for my first video, I like to look the part. My future self should look unlike my present self. Thankfully, I had a wig. I don’t know how else I’d pull off a future look. I mean, it did cross my mind to do a version of Dorf on Golf but…not in 2026. Yikes! Hey, they can’t all be winners.

Timeline —> Time Bandits

Here I am doing my version of Johnny Depp from Secret Window. If you haven’t seen the movie, I may seem bored with trying to connect Stir of Echoes to Secret Window. On the contrary. I was “in character”.

Eating in this one. I felt like Brad Pitt!

Remember when I told you I had an idea that fell through concerning an alien abduction…? Well, look no further.

I can’t do anything without my family’s judgment.

Alright! Enough about ALIENS! Now, going from Independence Day to War of the Worlds it’s unavoidable, right? Well, I pivoted to another higher power; Tom Cruise. This time I channel his Jerry Maguire character.

Show me the Reely…SHOW ME THE REELY!!

I really Speed through this Reely and you’ll be Blown Away to know, I’m not really Irish! ‘Tis true, lads and lasses. I can go in and out of it seamlessly.

Alexander “The Great” was historically known as a…great…strategist. So, MY strategy was to compare myself with the man…himself… Mission accomplished!

Alexander > Me

I may’ve been lost in the woods but my sights were clear on connecting myself WITH Kevin Bacon. And just like Sean Astin in White Water Summer, I didn’t need Kevin to save me…! I do, however, like to thank Cub Scout Troop 604 for their help when I needed it.

I know. Where’s my coat? It’s 3 degrees (of separation).

Well, that’s my time…Until I get a cease and desist order from PlayReely.com, Forgotten Cinema or Kevin Bacon, I’ll keep being your “One Minute Man”.
