I’m back with another dozen from the oven! Once again, I’ve got a brand new batch of videos attempting to connect two movies curated by Forgotten Cinema through their partnership with PlayReely.com

Each week, there are two challenges. One is trying to connect the two movies in fewer frames as possible. The second is, coming up with creative ways to showcase those choices. This week was The Way Way Back to The Way of the Gun. Here’s me doing my best MacGruber.
At my day job, I don’t get to jump on these ideas until I get home. This one was a little more technical than I’m use to. But, I’m up for the challenge. There was only ONE way to play this Reely, going from 21 to Rounders. Games, man…
I don’t care for spiders. I know they say, “They’re more scared of you than you are of them…” Nuh-uh. I don’t believe it. I ain’t taking that chance. The choices that week were, Eight Legged Freaks to Arachnophobia (which STILL freaks me out).
I had a different idea than the one I ended up doing. I was going to film myself driving and raging out over traffic (an idea I end up using later). Nevertheless, I was happy with the result, here. We went from Drive to Changing Lanes.
Once again, I got technical. But, really, when you think of soap operas, you think “Evil Twin”, no? Not really evil, per se, more like…a jerk? We went from Delirious to Soapdish. Good stuff.
I went up to the International Space Station and all I got was…a way to link Apollo 13 to Gravity. There ARE signs of intelligent life.
A week later, my idea was a little more “grounded”. Heh…? See what I did there? I apologize for that. I have to admit, I was stumped with this one. So, I channeled my inner Tiger King to connect The Power of the Dog to Secondhand Lions.
Both movies have quite the collection of characters. So, I got into my “southern lawyer” character to convince you fine folks I am no charlatan and connected Midnight Cowboy to Midnight In The Garden Of Good and Evil…Justly!
The only thing I know about cars is, how to sell ‘em! I think there was a pencil with Jon Voight’s teeth marks in this car’s glove box. If you’re interested…no? That week we went from Used Cars to Gung Ho.
Some ideas are simple. Until you have to execute them (Oof! Poor choice of words) by yourself. I’m happy with the end result. I overthought connecting Dead Man to Dead Man Walking, too. Last second, I nailed it.
Remember when I told you I had an idea for me raging behind the wheel…? The wait is over! I think this still could’ve been accomplished in real highway conditions. People are the worst! They make me…mad. Inspiring me to connect Mad City to Dark City.
I was going to go with an accent for this week’s Reely. Thankfully, I just went with the Star Wars theme. It’s easier to act like a space magician over doing an accent. Believe me! This was linking Trainspotting to Rob Roy: The Scottish Connection.
Well, that’s what I had cookin’ over the last 12 weeks. I’ll keep doing this as long as it’s still fun (it is). As long as you’re still interested (not a deal breaker if you aren’t) and The Mikes over at Forgotten Cinema are still involved. Go on, give it a try! It’s free to play everyday. Head on over to PlayReely.com and, of course, go to forgottencinemapodcast.com to listen to episodes weekly, talking about forgotten gems in cinema.
