Here, at Arguing With Myself, you won’t hear any political opinion from me. But there are things that make me scratch my head. The Cracker Barrel controversy, for instance, got me thinking. The removal of “Uncle Hershel” from its logo, in favor of a text-only brand is a huge misstep. Cracker Barrel has a certain clientele that frequent their restaurants. Weary travelers, people looking for a break from fast food, or they have a hankerin’ for a homestyle meal (name another restaurant that serves meatloaf…go ahead, I’ll wait). The rebrand looks like it’s trying to draw in a younger crowd. It’s new, now and wow. To me it looks like an app icon (unAPPatizing).

If you were to approach someone who’s never heard of Cracker Barrel before, I bet they’d be hard pressed to tell you what kind of food they serve. The old logo told you everything you needed to know. Call me old fashioned but that’s just MY opinion.
